What’s Included in Your Prinsu PRO Roof Rack Kit

Before starting, confirm you have the following components:

  • Side rails (driver and passenger sides)
  • Crossbars (one with a flat underside for the wind deflector)
  • Mounting brackets (labeled #1, #2, and #3)
  • Wind deflector with noise-reducing edge trim
  • Aluminum spacers
  • Rubber washers
  • Stainless steel hardware (bolts, washers, nuts)
  • Vibra-Tite threadlocker

Tools You’ll Need

  • Screwdriver or drill with a 5/32” hex bit
  • T-30 torque bit
  • Side-cutting pliers
  • 10mm, 12mm, and 13mm sockets
  • Flathead screwdriver

Step-by-Step Installation Process

Step 1: Prepare Your Workspace and Components

  • Unpack all parts and lay them out to form a rough outline of how the rack will sit on your vehicle.
  • Verify that all hardware and mounting brackets are included.

Step 2: Assemble the Side Rails and Mounting Brackets

  • Identify the mounting brackets labeled #1 (front), #2 (middle), and #3 (rear).
  • Attach bracket #1 to the inner side rail recess using the included bolts and a 5/32” hex bit.
  • Repeat the process for brackets #2 and #3. Ensure each bracket is securely fastened.

Step 3: Install the Crossbars

  • Secure the crossbars to the side rails using the button-head socket bolts.
  • Ensure the drop-in points on the crossbars face upwards. Avoid placing a crossbar over a mounting foot.
  • Set aside the special flat underside crossbar for later use with the wind deflector.

Pro Tip: If you’re installing the rack solo, attach the crossbars once the rack is on the vehicle for easier handling.

Step 4: Remove the Factory Roof Rack (if applicable)

  • For vehicles with a factory roof rack:
    • Use a 13mm socket to remove the mounting bolts and disassemble the rack.
  • For vehicles without a factory roof rack:
    • Remove the plastic covers over the mounting holes using a flathead screwdriver.

Step 5: Prepare the Mounting Surface

  • Place the rubber washers over the factory mounting holes to protect your roof.
  • Set an aluminum spacer on top of each rubber washer to prepare for rack placement.

Step 6: Mount the Prinsu PRO Roof Rack

  • Lift the partially assembled rack onto your vehicle. Align it with the mounting holes.
  • Apply RTV silicone into the spacers to seal against moisture and prevent leaks.
  • Thread the mounting bolts through the washers and into the holes. Hand-tighten them initially.
  • Once all bolts are in place, tighten them securely with a 13mm socket.

Step 7: Attach the Wind Deflector

  • Insert T-nuts into the wind deflector crossbar, ensuring the flush side faces up. Align the T-nuts with the deflector’s holes.
  • Prep the Phillips head bolts with washers and apply Vibra-Tite threadlocker.
  • Secure the wind deflector to the crossbar with the bolts.
  • Install the noise-reducing edge trim along the bottom of the deflector and trim any excess with side-cutting pliers.
  • Mount the wind deflector onto the rack.

Step 8: Install Weatherstripping

  • Hold the weatherstripping alongside the rack and mark areas where it intersects with mounting points.
  • Use side-cutting pliers to trim the weatherstripping at the marked spots.
  • Reinstall the trimmed weatherstripping for a clean, finished look.

Final Checks and Tips

  1. Verify all bolts are tightened to their specified torque:
    • 17 ft-lbs for M8 mounting bolts
    • 8 ft-lbs for 1/4" hardware
  2. Check the silicone sealant around the spacers to ensure no gaps remain.
  3. Test the rack's stability by gently shaking it—there should be no movement.
